Today has many names--Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Carnival Day, or Pancake Day!
This marks the last day before the Christian observance of Lent begins. It was traditional in many societies to eat pancakes or other foods made with the butter, eggs and fat that would be given up during the Lenten season.
So if you have the ingredients, why not make some pancakes today.

Pancakes Anyone?

Some people know today as Shrove Tuesday. Others as Fat Tuesday. But in my house it is known as Pancake Day!
Shrove Tuesday is the day that comes before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, a religious holiday for Christians that includes fasting and prayer. So it became tradition to use up the rich, perishable food before the fasting began. That included using up sugar, eggs, milk and butter. And what's one of the best things to make out of those ingredients--pancakes!
