Anger bubbled up inside her. Swallowing it back took a real effort, but she managed. With anger would come a burst of energy. That could alert one of her kind to her presence here.

“Just who the hell are you?” she demanded.

He frowned and tilted his head to one side, seeming honestly bewildered by her question. “Alexei Medvedev.”

It was tempting to let it go, but she couldn’t afford to. She leaned closer until their foreheads were almost touching. “Let me rephrase the question. What are you?” If she was wrong about him, he’d be confused by her question. If she could catch him off guard, she might get an honest reaction.

He released a chuff, the sound more animalistic than human.

It all suddenly made sense—his big size, his enormous appetite, his ability to easily handle whiskey like it was water. The dark, musky scent that clung to his skin.

She checked to make sure no one else could hear. For once, the jukebox was quiet and there was only the hum of the television over the bar.

“You’re a shifter of some kind, aren’t you?” She had no idea just what she was dealing with, but having one of his kind show up in Alaska and come to her place of work was no coincidence.

Without waiting for an answer, she demanded, “Why are you here?”

He straightened­­––his great size more intimidating than it had been up until this very moment. Without the haze of sexual attraction blinding her, it was easy to see what was glaringly obvious, to put all the clues together.

Ignorance might be bliss, but it could also be her undoing. Too bad she hadn’t seduced him last night. That ship had sailed. And that saddened her even as dread made her stomach clench.

He stared right at her, his icy-blue eyes filled with determination.

“I’m here for you.”

THROWBACK THRUSDAY--DRAKON'S TEAR

The Throwback Thursday book this week is DRAKON'S TEAR, the sixth book in the Blood of the Drakon series.

His heart pumped hard in his chest, and his lungs expanded with each breath he took. He met her gaze. “You are mine.”

He waited to see if she would object. He knew times had changed. Women were independent. And while he had no problem with that, even admired it, there was a part of him that was far more primitive.

“You are mine.” She gave his words back to him, and his dragon, which had been restless for centuries, practically purred. He wanted to be claimed by her. Wanted to belong to someone in this godforsaken world. Needed a reason other than the gaining of knowledge and wealth to occupy his days.

Abigail would give him purpose, a reason to carry on. But mostly, he wanted her love.

“I am,” he told her. He arched one brow and waited.

“I am,” she repeated.

He knew she truly didn’t understand what she was agreeing to, but he didn’t care. He hadn’t felt lonely until he’d met her. Hadn’t understood the depths of his emptiness until she was suddenly here, pouring into every crevice and canyon of his being.

“Abigail.” Such a perfect name for such a perfect creature.

THROWBACK THURSDAY--WOLF AT THE DOOR

Today I'm throwing back to the Salvation Pack series.

Her fingers were shaking as she dug out the keys and jammed them into the ignition. It took her two tries before they finally slid home.

 

Something heavy hit the car. Gwen cried out and her gaze flew to the front windshield. Jacque was perched in front of her like some giant hood ornament. He was crouched low with one hand resting on the hood. “Unlock the door, Gwen.”

 

Like that was going to happen. She turned the key and the engine sprang to life. Louis stood beside the car, shaking his head at her. She prayed they didn’t have any guns,

although they could easily use her shotgun against her.

 

Gwen slammed the vehicle into reverse and hit the gas. Louis managed to jump out of the way before she ran him over. She flew backward down the narrow driveway with Jacque riding on the hood. She turned the wheel hard to the left and he flew off, landing with a heavy thud on the ground.

 

She almost stopped to see if he was hurt then reminded herself that he and his brother were going to kill her. What did it matter if he was hurt? Still, she was glad when she

glanced in the rearview mirror and saw him climb to his feet.

“Good morning.” The deep rumbling voice coming from her tiny galley kitchen made her blood thicken. Rumpled and as sexy as ever, he leaned against the doorframe, coffee mug in hand.

He was only half dressed, his T-shirt tossed across the living room chair beside his sweater. But a partially naked Alexei was simply too much to ignore.
